Could Bayern Munich sell USMNT prospect Julian Green to AC Milan for between $1-2 million?
That’s the report from Calcio Mercato, which says Bayern will entertain the offer but ultimately want to let incoming manager Carlo Ancelotti make the call on the 20-year-old Green.
Jurgen Klinsmann’s courtship of Green was well-covered, and the youngster paid dividends of sorts with a goal in the USMNT’s loss to Belgium at the 2014 World Cup.
But he’s failed to find playing time at Bayern, making just a single senior team appearance — in the UEFA Champions League — for the Bavarians.
This year Green is playing for Bayern Munich’s second team, called Regionalliga Bayern, where he has scored 10 goals in 23 seasonal games. Representatives from the Italian club have scouted Green several times this season and the Rossoneri are confident they can seal the player’s transfer for a fee in the region of € 1-2 million.
The player’s affordable price-tag could even lower in the future, given that the Green’s contract runs until 2017.
Milan is a big club, but it’s not so much the caliber of club that appeals to the minds of U.S. Soccer fans. Green needs to see senior minutes, and it looks unlikely that will be happening any time soon at Bayern with Kingsley Coman continuing to impress on the wing at 19.
What say you to Italy, Julian?
