PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Portland Thorns have formally signed French midfielder Amandine Henry.
Henry’s move, which had been widely anticipated before it as announced Wednesday, will be complete once she finishes out her contract with her French club team and obtains the necessary documents to play in the United States.
Henry won the Silver Ball at the Women’s World Cup in Canada last year for the French national team, which advanced to the quarterfinals. The 26-year-old was also named to the event’s All-Star team.
In nine seasons with Olympique Lyon of France’s top division, Henry has twice won UEFA Champions League titles. Lyon has won eight league titles and four French Cup titles during her tenure. She has appeared in 198 matches across all competitions, with 44 goals.
