Despite Manchester United long being linked to Mats Hummels, another Premier League side has emerged as a favorite to claim the German defender.

German outlet Sport Bild is reporting that Hummels is being heavily pursued by reining PL champion Chelsea, who is seeking a long-term replacement for John Terry at centerback.

It is expected that Dortmund will require a fee in the range of $40 million, as he is one of the most coveted centerbacks in all of Europe.

While Hummels would be a superb move for the Blues, the squad’s current contingent of youngsters on defense likely won’t take too kindly to the move.

American defender Matt Miazga, who joined the London side in January, has yet to see a senior team minute, while Kurt Zouma is currently rehabbing a gruesome knee injury suffered against United last month.

With Terry’s exit looming, the team features Gary Cahill as the lone true option at centerback, although Baba Rahman and Branislav Ivanovic have filled emergency roles during the 2015-16 season.
