Lukaku wants Champions League next season, but Everton won’t be there

This, it appears, is bad news for the Everton Football Club.

Star striker Romelu Lukaku, 23, is making waves at Belgium national team camp, claiming he needs to take the next step in his career by playing in the UEFA Champions League.

The problem with that, of course, is that Lukaku plays for Everton. The Toffees are 13 points out of the Top Four with just seven matches to play.

From Sky Sports:

“That is the next step for me. I’m 23 next summer and I think it would be nice to play in the Champions League from next season.”

Lukaku has 25 goals this season, and would be an asset to nearly every attack. Ignoring the fact that he did, in fact, regularly play in the UEFA Champions League with Anderlecht, is the big man not long for Merseyside?

Atletico Madrid, here he comes.
