Pochettino: Premier League title race not just two teams (Yep, that’s crazy talk)

While most have written off every team not named Leicester City or Tottenham Hotspur in the race for the Premier League title, Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is not one of the majority.

With his club five points back of Leicester but no other side with 10 points of the top slot, Pochettino says you have to dig below than the surface.

From Sky Sports:

“For me, at the moment, we are competing with different teams and not only Leicester,” he said. “Arsenal, Manchester City, United, West Ham and Southampton all have the possibility because mathematically it is possible.

“I think seven games is a lot. It’s a lot of points and you never know what will happen in football.

“We believe we can win the title but other teams have the possibility to fight with us and I am realistic.”

I think we’re taking “respect for the opponent” a bit too far, Mo.

Let’s include Liverpool, who could stand at 50 points if it wins its two matches-in-hand on Leicester.

If Arsenal were to win out, the Gunners would finish with 79 points. Man City winning out gets 75, while West Ham and Manchester United stack up 74 (Liverpool maxes out at 71).

Leicester has Southampton, Sunderland, West Ham, Swansea, Man Utd, Everton and Chelsea left. That’s not an easy slate, but the Foxes would need to need to get less than 14 points for Arsenal to get them.

Yes, a team that’s lost just three games this year would have to drop 7 points if Arsenal wins every remaining PL match on its schedule. If Spurs and Arsenal both joined Leicester in imploding, the Foxes would have to drop more than half its points to lose the title to a perfect-finishing Man City, Man Utd or West Ham.
