In some ways, Claudio Ranieri‘s is everyone’s odd and clever uncle.

In one breath, he can keep a side focused on the task at hand and the means needed to get the job done.

The next could bring a “dilly-ding, dilly-dong” and talk of dreamland, winning games for the chairman’s birthday and such sentiments.

Sunday’s post-match banter was a bit of both for the Leicester City manager, who was speaking after the Foxes went 7 points clear of Tottenham after a 1-0 win over visiting Southampton.

From the BBC:

“Clean sheet, three points, step by step. It’s fantastic because we know very well Southampton came here with a lot of confidence.

“I said to the players, it’s the chairman’s birthday, he needs a special present from us. The skipper came back from a long journey with the national team, it’s amazing.

“I enjoy it a lot when we maintain clean sheets. We are dreaming, if we fight we can do something and we must continue. It’s important to stay very calm and maintain our feet on the ground.”

Allow yourselves to dream but stay grounded in reality. It all makes sense, and every match day Leicester’s players hear that dilly-ding, dilly-dong and snap back to focus.

The title is coming.
