Wambach admits cocaine, marijuana use

According to court records in Oregon U.S. women’s national team legend Abby Wambach, 35, has admitted using cocaine and marijuana while a member of the USWNT.

Last weekend Wambach was arrested on suspicion of DUI in the state of Oregon and despite apologizing publicly, her lawyer entered a not guilty plea on behalf of Wambach on Tuesday.

It is alleged Wambach drove a car in downtown Portland while under the influence of alcohol in the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to the Associated Press, the BBC, the Oregonian and multiple other outlets, in court documents related to Wambach’s arrest she admitted using marijuana at the age of 24 and said she last used it at the age of 25.

She also admitted to using cocaine a decade ago as the court documents state: “The defendant tried cocaine at age 25.”

According to the Associated Press, a Portland police spokesman said that it is standard procedure to question a suspect about prior drug use.

Wambach retired from soccer last October and she is the all-time leading goalscorer in both men’s and women’s international soccer.

She won two Olympic gold medals and the World Cup in 2015 with the USWNT, plus won the Ballon d’Or as the best women’s player in the world in 2012.
