Wenger after conceding thrice to West Ham: “Overall it’s a shame”

Arsenal’s title hopes were destroyed because the North London club let Andy Carroll do what he does best.

It’s baffling, as the big Englishman loves to get on the end of headers and has to be marked tightly and by someone who can handle that pressure.

Arsene Wenger either failed to tell his defenders, or no one was listening. Carroll scored three goals in eight minutes to help West Ham to a 3-3 draw.

From the BBC:

“We’ve shown resilience and spirit to come back to 3-3. In the last 20 mins it could have gone both ways. I’m disappointed we didn’t (have an answer to Andy Carroll).

“I’m not here after the game to blame the players. We are disappointed to concede three goals. Particularly after 2-1. Overall it’s a shame.

“Do we still have an opportunity to win the title? I don’t know. We made it more difficult today.”

Wenger is a legendary manager, and he certainly hasn’t forgotten how to do the job. But he’s having a poor second half of the season, especially by his lofty standards.
