Two days after club directors David Bernstein and Lord Mervyn King stepped down from their positions at Aston Villa, details have come out regarding their resignations.

A new report from the BBC claims a heated email exchange between the executives and Villa’s American owner Randy Lerner was the final straw before the duo walked away.

Lord King came to Villa Park in February and Bernstein in March in an effort to turn around the club’s finances ahead of their relegation to the Championship.

However, it is believed they could not implement that plans and structure they had hoped for, leading to an string of emails between King and Bernstein criticizing Randy Lerner.

Those emails were somehow leaked to Lerner, who directly responded to King and Bernstein with a scathing email of his own.

The American billionaire purchased Aston Villa in 2006, but has been trying to sell the club for some time now. However, he has not found an interested buyer as the club is in complete disarray both on and off the pitch.
