Arsenal moved back into the Premier League’s third slot with a relatively easy 2-0 victory over visiting West Bromwich Albion on Thursday.

The Emirates saw a pair of first half goals from Alexis Sanchez, and rode that start to a win. The Gunners have 63 points, two ahead of Man City and four up on Manchester United.

West Bromwich Albion has 40 points, 10 clear of the drop zone but only good for 15th place.

West Brom could pack it in as much as it liked, but that wasn’t going to help if Arsenal was belting in goals from outside the area.

First, Sanchez recovered from a slight stumble to hammer a worm-burning shot past Ben Foster.

Then the Chilean snapped a free kick through two Arsenal players occupying the end of the West Brom wall, and Foster could not react to stop the spinning orb.

Referee Jon Moss might’ve been a bit snakebit from Sunday’s big to-do between Leicester and West Ham, because he turned down several shouts for penalties — including a first half handball against Arsenal — and did not book Mohamed Elneny for diving on one second-half occasion.

The Baggies did find some pressure late in the second half, and Salomon Rondon very much should’ve made it 2-1 with a mistaken shot at the back post.
