Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana scored first half goals, and Liverpool looked well on its way to an easy win over the relegation-battling Magpies.
But former Reds boss Rafa Benitez watched as his Magpies struck twice in the second half to earn what could be a pivotal point in the Premier League’s race for 17th.
“What can I say? It was the intensive game I expected. We did well against a team who fight for, I don’t want to make it too big, but for their life in the Premier League.
“To be honest, I don’t believe they had another shot on goal for Newcastle. They had two shots, two goals, hmph.“It doesn’t feel like you’ve won a point. You’ve lost two.”
The Reds’ slim hopes to encroach on the PL’s Top Five take a big hit with the draw, while Newcastle must be top-flight life is very much in play.
