The summer transfer window doesn’t open until July 1, but Manchester United are already making plans for a massive signing.

According to reports in England, United are targeting Benfica’s Renato Sanches, one of the most highly-rated youngsters in the world.

Benfica rate him so highly, they are holding out for a transfer fee of nearly $70 million.

That figure seems astronomical, but United did buy Anthony Martial last summer for a fee that could grow to over $80 million.

While Martial was an 19-year-old striker, Sanches is an 18-year-old midfielder who has already established himself as one of the best players in the Primeira Liga. With two caps for the national team, he’s been labeled “a young Portuguese starlet with the most potential since Cristiano Ronaldo.”

A box-to-box midfielder, Sanches could slot into the United team right away with the likes of Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger no longer the players they once were.

However, when putting a massive price tag on a teenager and taking him from his hometown club, there is always a chance things don’t go as planned. The Martial deal looks to have been a great move, and if there’s one club willing to take a risk and pay the price, it’s Manchester United.
