With Simeone now in charge of Atletico and Guardiola pulling the strings at Bayern, they are expecting a tight encounter at the Vicente Calderon. Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s match, the Atleti boss said the 90 minutes would be a battle.
I’m expecting a hard match against an opponent with a lot of attacking potential, against a coach who changes from game to game.
Bayern have many options, but in battles, the side with most soldiers does not win, but those who use their soldiers better.
Guardiola’s teams are known for controlling massive amounts of possession while working a free-flowing attack, while Simeone prides his team on structure and playing physical defense. Based on Simeone’s comments, it seems as if he is confident he can out-coach Pep, something that is rarely done.
Having already eliminated Barcelona, Atleti are riding a wave of confidence into this semifinal matchup. Defeating Bayern Munich will be a tall order, but Simeone has his soldiers ready for battle.
