Watford 2-2 Sunderland: Flores finishes with a draw

Watford and Sunderland played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Vicarage Road on Sunday with the Hornets battling back twice from behind to grab a draw.

Jack Rodwell and Jeremain Lens twice gave Sunderland the lead, with Sebastian Prodl and Troy Deeney equalized in Quique Sanchez Flores’ final game in charge as he departs this summer.

For the first-time in their history Watford have secured back-to-back seasons in the PL as they finish 13th on 45 points, while Sunderland finished on 39 points in 17th.

Watford had plenty of chances early on against an experimental Sunderland side but the Black Cats went ahead. Rodwell stole in at the back post to slot home the opener. 1-0.

Duncan Watmore then scored but his goal was ruled out for offside but the Sunderland youngster will be disappointed when he sees the replay as he looked clearly on.

Just three minutes into the second half Watford were level as Prodl sent a thumping header into the net. 1-1.

And just three minutes later Sunderland were back ahead as Lens picked out the bottom corner from the edge of the box. 2-1 to the Black Cats.

Referee Kevin Friend then awarded a penalty kick as John O'Shea‘s high challenge on Jurado was penalized.

Deeney dispatched the spot kick to make it 2-2 as he scored his 15 goal of the season and sealed a draw for the Hornets as Flores signed off as boss.
