Terry’s contract saga has been ongoing since January when he told reporters that the club would not offer him a new deal. However, last week it was announced that Chelsea had offered Terry a new deal and after an emotional speech at Stamford Bridge on Sunday the center back has now pledged another year to the west London club.

Speaking to Chelsea’s website, Terry confirmed he will be back for a 19th season as a pro at Chelsea and it will be purely a playing role.

“I am delighted to sign a new contract with the club. Everyone knows I’m Chelsea through and through,” Terry said. “I am looking forward to next season under the new manager and hopefully we can make it a successful one. Also, a special mention to the fans for their continued support. You’re the best in the world.”

Terry is Mr. Chelsea.

He joined the club as a 14-year-old and has made over 700 appearances for the Blues, winning 14 major trophies including four Premier League titles, five FA Cups, three League Cups, a Europa League and a UEFA Champions League. He has won every major honor available during his glittering career at Chelsea. It was thought he may take some kind of coaching role alongside his role as club captain but it seems as though he will continue to focus solely on suiting up. For now.

With new manager Antonio Conte arriving this summer, Chelsea said that “the decision was taken following the appointment of Antonio Conte as the club’s new manager last month, and consultation between Terry, Conte, the owner and the board.”

In recent months there has been a constant campaign from fans to ensure Terry was offered a new deal at Chelsea, with the player himself repeating on multiple occasions he wanted to stay at Chelsea. He’s got his wish.

Despite his age Terry showed his class and talent time and time again this season. Chelsea’s struggles were real as they finished 10th in a miserable title defense but with Terry back to help Conte out in central defense, the legendary skipper will surely be fired up to prove the Blues can get back among the top dogs next season.

Conte will have Terry, Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic to choose from at center back, while Kurt Zouma will still be out for some time after picking up a serious knee injury. It is highly likely Terry will be a pivotal figure next season.

The Blues need Terry around and he needs them. It is a match made in heaven and it will continue for at least another year.
