Big Apple bragging rights are on the line when NYCFC host the Red Bulls, while Portland and Vancouver battle for points in the Cascasdia Cup out west.
New York City FC vs. New York Red Bulls — Saturday, 3:00 p.m. ET
In the first Hudson River Derby of 2016, New York City FC hosts crosstown rivals New York Red Bulls. The Red Bulls won all three meetings last season, although they have struggled after claiming the Supporters’ Shield. Surprisingly, NYCFC enters the weekend at the top of the Eastern Conference, despite having just one win at home all season.
Seattle Sounders vs. Colorado Rapids — Saturday, 10 p.m. ET
Before the season started, it would be hard to imagine the Colorado Rapids on top of the West with the Sounders just two points off the bottom, but here we are. The surprise package of 2016, the Rapids head up to Seattle as Pablo Mastroeni’s men look to add three more points to their league-best record. On the other end of the spectrum, the Sounders have been very disappointing to start the year, scoring a conference-low ten goals through 13 matches.
Portland Timbers vs. Vancouver Whitecaps — Sunday, 4:30 p.m. ET
With one rivalry match in the East, another rivalry match in the West kicks off on Sunday when the Portland Timbers host the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Cascadia foes met in the Western Conference semifinals last season, with the Timbers advancing 2-0 on aggregate. That matchup is still in the minds of Vancouver players, whose 20 goals scored are the second-most in MLS in this season.
