The game in 100 words (or less): Maybe it’s time to break up the Colorado Rapids. You know, in the name of parity, because MLS loves parity. With Saturday’s 1-0 victory away to the Seattle Sounders, Pablo Mastroeni’s side is unbeaten in eight games with six wins during that period. It was the Rapids’ eighth victory of the 2016 season (27 points from 13 games), moving them back to level with FC Dallas for tops in the league in that category, and a point ahead of FCD for the top spot in the Western Conference and Supporters’ Shield race. Axel Sjoberg scored the game’s only goal on Saturday, as the Rapids kept their fifth clean sheet of the season, keeping intact their league-best goals conceded tally (9). The Sounders, meanwhile, hold steady in the eighth spot out west, a full five points back of the San Jose Earthquakes, who currently occupy the West’s sixth and final playoff place.

Three moments that mattered
43′ — Sjoberg strikes from a corner kick for 1-0 — Axel Sjoberg, at 6-foot-7, is typically the tallest man on a given soccer field. It’s probably a good idea to mark the tallest person on the other team. Seattle forgot to do that in the 43rd minute.
59′ — Solignac goes one-on-one, but pulls his shot wide — Luis Solignac managed to get in behind the Soudners backline, and it had to be a goal. It had to be. It wasn’t.
72′ — Dempsey’s header cleared off the line by Burch — Clint Dempsey got everything behind this header, which was destined to nestle inside Zac MacMath’s right-hand post, if not for Marc Burch’s intervention. The deflection back off Herculez Gomez could have gone anywhere.
Man of the match: Marc Burch
