Euro 2016, Copa America Today: Wales-England do battle, USMNT faces Ecuador

Four games are on the docket on Thursday, with a triple-header of Euro 2016 matches set to begin at 9 a.m., while the Copa America Centenario quarterfinals kick off in the nightcap.

Wales looks to claim a spot in the the Round of 16 with a win over England in Group B, while Group C play continues when Germany faces off with Poland and Northern Ireland meets Ukraine.

In Copa America action, the U.S. Men’s National Team will look to advance to the semifinals for the second time in their tournament tenure against Ecuador.

EURO 2016, Game 16: England vs. Wales

When: Thursday, 9 a.m. ET

Where: Stade Bollaert-Delelis, Lens

While England’s supporters have dominated headlines recently, this matchup could potentially be one of the best in the entire tournament. Wales is looking to make the most of the Euro 2016 experience, and will attempt to build off of their opening match win against Slovakia. Their opponent is seeking their first win of the competition, but Gareth Bale and company will do everything to stop that from becoming a reality.

EURO 2016, Game 17: Ukraine vs. Northern Ireland

When: Thursday, 12 p.m. ET

Where: Parc Olympique Lyonnais, Lyon

A tie doesn’t do either side too much good after losing their opening matches. Northern Ireland managed to keep their game close against Poland, while Ukraine struggled to stick with Germany for great lengths of their match. Both teams will have to go for it if they want to have a shot to progress to the next round.

EURO 2016, Game 18: Germany vs. Poland

When: Thursday, 3 p.m. ET

Where: Stade de France, Saint-Denis

Germany wasn’t up to the level they’d like to be in their first match, but their victory proved that they are still among Europe’s elite. Thursday’s test against Poland will be challenging, particularly containing a familiar face for many of the Germans, Robert Lewandowski. In reality though, it’s Poland who will likely have the short end of the stick in this one.

Copa America, Game 25: United States vs. Ecuador

When: Thursday, 9:30 p.m. ET

Where: CenturyLink Field, Seattle

After staving off adversity in the group stage, the USMNT looks to keep their Copa America Centenario run going on Thursday night. While the circumstances of their meeting with Ecuador in May were very different, the U.S. can use the experience as leverage coming into the clash. Even without DeAndre Yedlin, Jurgen Klinsmann’s team has the players to compete with the talented Ecuador side. It’s just a matter of battling through another tough task.
