Roy Hodgson made six changes to his England side on Monday, with Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge both in the starting XI. However, neither could break down a stingy Slovakian defense that held strong throughout the match.

It was scenes of Leicester City in the 17th minute as Jamie Vardy breezed by his defender while chasing a long ball down the wing, but Matus Kozacik came up with a big stop for Slovakia. It was a chance Vardy usually finishes, but he was unable to give his nation an early lead.

Nathaniel Clyne used his speed to make a run up the right flank and slot a pass back for Adam Lallana just past the half-hour mark, but the Liverpool midfielder fired his shot right at Kozacik in net.

Dele Alli replaced Lallana in the 60th minute and he made his presence felt immediately. Just seconds after coming on, the young Tottenham midfielder connected with a Jordan Henderson cross, only to see his effort cleared off the line by Liverpool’s Martin Skrtel.

The match would finish a scoreless draw, a disappointing result for an English side that was expected to finish atop their group. England will now face the runner-up from Group F in the next round.
