At Manchester’s Arndale Shopping Center on Friday, a huge red banner with the message “Manchester, Welcome to Zlatan” was unfurled just above the Manchester City team store and it also featured an image of the incoming Swedish striker.
Nobody has yet taken responsibility for the banner but this is obviously a play on the banner which City’s fan put up in Manchester following Carlos Tevez move from Manchester United to Manchester City back in 2009.
That sign sarcastically said: “Welcome to Manchester” as many City fans still regard themselves as the people’s club of Manchester, rather than the global superpower that United has become.
With Jose Mourinho arriving at Manchester United and Pep Guardiola taking charge of Manchester City this summer, tensions are rising on the red and blue halves of the city as this rivalry continues to build.
