Germany will be without their top goalscorer throughout the rest of the European Championship as Mario Gomez has been ruled out with a hamstring injury.

The striker was forced off in the 72nd minute of Germany’s quarterfinal match against Italy, replaced by Julian Draxler as the Germans went on to advance in penalties.

Gomez has featured in four of Germany’s five matches at EURO 2016, starting the last three. His two goals lead the team.

Manager Joachim Low will have some lineup decisions to make as he prepares to face France in the semifinal, now without his first-choice striker and Sami Khedira, who was also ruled out through injury.

Center-back Mats Hummels is suspended for the France match with yellow card accumulation, while captain Bastian Schweinsteiger is also a game-time decision after picking up a knock against Italy.
