The match(es) in 100 words (or less): Tim Howard made his first Major League Soccer appearance since 2003, keeping a clean sheet in his return as the Colorado Rapids drew 0-0 with the Portland Timbers. Howard made two saves in the draw, which keeps the Rapids atop the Western Conference. Right behind the Rapids are FC Dallas, who cruised to a 4-0 win over Orlando City SC. FCD scored twice in the opening 25 minutes as Oscar Pareja’s side have now won three straight in all competitions, with Orlando City still outside the playoff spots in the East.

Three moments that mattered

Tim Howard returns — After thirteen years in the Premier League with Manchester United and Everton, 37-year-old Tim Howard made his MLS return tonight, fittingly on July Fourth.

21′ in Dallas — Barrios chips to double the lead — Michael Barrios put FC Dallas 2-0 up on Orlando City with his sixth goal of the season. Max Urruti slipped Barrios through, as the winger finished with a clever chip.

43′ in Colorado — Adi denied by the post — Tim Howard can thank his post for helping in the clean sheet, as Fanendo Adi just missed a chance to give Portland a lead before the break. Adi bursted through on goal and beat Howard with his shot, but was rejected by the woodwork.
