23-year-old Lucas Silva could retire from soccer after a medical examination discovered a heart defect.
The Real Madrid midfielder was set for a loan move to Portuguese giants FC Porto when his entrance medical discovered the problem, according to multiple reports in Spain and Portugal.
There has not been an official retirement announcement from either club or player, but the player’s Instagram bio reads to a Bible verse, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
Lucas played last season with Olympique Marseille on loan, beginning the season in the starting lineup, but struggled to impress and lost his place in the first team. Despite his spotty performances, Marseille reportedly attempted to secure him on a permanent basis, but talks broke down and he returned to Real Madrid.
Silva signed a 5-1/2 year deal with Real Madrid in the summer of 2015 after a transfer from Brazilian side Cruzeiro, where he was developed as a youth player.
