For about two weeks, Crystal Palace has been heavily rumored to be the frontrunners for Christian Benteke‘s signature with the Belgian’s Liverpool time clearly coming to an end.
Reports this morning have declared that, despite the two sides’ inability to yet come to an agreement on his transfer fee, Benteke has agreed to personal terms with Palace in an effort to push his side closer to a deal.
According to the Mirror, Liverpool is still hoping to get back what the club paid for the towering striker, which might end up being a pipe dream considering they paid $41 million to bring him in from Aston Villa. Benteke ended up with just nine goals in 29 Premier League appearances for the Reds, with over half those appearances coming off the bench.
Benteke is just 25 years old, which may help Liverpool’s cause, as he has plenty of time to turn things around. Despite the current gap between the two parties, the Mirror report describes the feeling for both sides as “optimistic” towards completing a deal soon.
With personal terms set, the Mirror reports Benteke will earn the highest wages in Crystal Palace history. He would be the fourth signing this summer for the Eagles, with Steve Mandana, James Tomkins, and Andros Townsend having already completed a move.
