Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City debut was a loss to his former team. Given the lack of passion for preseason soccer and 12 Academy players, we’re doubting the intense former Bayern Munich manager cared too much about the result.

City warned up for its upcoming China friendly with Manchester United by giving up a goal to Erdal Ozturk, as Bayern picked up a 1-0 win at Allianz Arena.

Liverpool scooped up a 2-0 win against Huddersfield Town to make it four on the bounce this preseason, with Marko Grujic scoring and Alberto Moreno adding a penalty. The Reds will be nervous after losing Lucas to an injury, and Jurgen Klopp also used a backup goalkeeper for his final substitute… as a striker.

Sam Allardyce looks set to be leaving Sunderland for the England gig, and if that’s the case the Black Cats sent him off in style with a 3-0 win over Hartlepool United. Jermain Defoe picked up a brace and Wahbi Khazri scored in the win.

Antonio Conte called Chelsea‘s 3-0 win over WAC RZ Pellets a “good schooling” for his young squad, with Nathaniel Chalobah, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Bertrand all burying chances. Michy Batshuayi also made his debut, going a half-hour.

From ChelseaFC.com:

“He has trained three days and today I wanted to see if after these three days he understood some tactical aspects. He can improve a lot, he can become a strong forward, he is very young but with great talent and I am happy with him.”
