Report: Arsenal looking to bolster backline with Mustafi

Arsenal is facing a clear challenge at the back as Arsene Wenger‘s side prepares to face Liverpool at the start of the new Premier League season, and the French manager is prepared to make a move.

Goal UK is reporting that the Gunners are set to offer $27 million for Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi, who has proven to be a viable centerback option over recent seasons.

Mustafi has made a combined 78 appearances for Valencia over the past two seasons, while also receiving several call ups to the German national team. The central defender was included in Joachim Low’s 23-man roster for this summer’s EURO 2016, where Germany

The 24-year-old German has been previously pursued by Arsenal, with the team’s past offer of $20 million turned down by the La Liga side.

The reported improved bid could keep Mustafi in England permanently if the Gunners move fast. Mustafi and Valencia are currently in England training ahead of two preseason friendlies against AFC Bournemouth and Crystal Palace.
