Kasper Schmeichel inks five-year deal with Leicester

It was a team effort in their Premier League triumph last season but one of Leicester City’s key figures is returning for many years to come.

The club announced on Saturday that goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has signed a new five-year deal with the Foxes, after joining the team back in 2011.

In addition to Leicester’s PL title-winning season in 2015/16, Schmeichel was the man in net during the team’s Championship promotion campaign two years prior.

The 29-year-old spoke with LCFC TV about remaining with the PL champions:

“I’m just buzzing and I can’t wait for the season to get started,” Schmeichel said. “It was a very easy decision. It was a case of coming back after winning the Premier League and making sure that the hunger was the same within myself and the squad. I’ve come back absolutely convinced that this is the place for me to be.”

Last season, Schmeichel was fifth in the PL in saves (100), while leading all goalkeepers in wins, with 23.
