The game in 100 words (or less): The Colorado Rapids are determined to battle FC Dallas for the Supporters’ Shield to the end of the 2016 regular season. After being embarrassed a week ago, 5-1 at the hands of New York City FC, Pablo Mastroeni’s side bounced back with a 2-0 victory over the suddenly floundering Vancouver Whitecaps. Marlon Hairston, who continues to establish himself as a fast-rising youngster (22 years old) in his third professional season, bagged a goal and an assist on the night (his 3rd and 2nd of the season). With the victory, the Rapids are once again just three points back of the West- and league-leading Hoops, with two games still in hand. The Rapids and FCD will face off once more this season, Sept. 10 in Frisco, Tex. The Whitecaps, meanwhile, haven’t scored a road goal in four outings, and find themselves just one and two points clear of the sixth- and seventh-place Portland Timbers and San Jose Earthquakes, respectively.
