The game in 100 words (or less): It’s too late for the Seattle Sounders to make a playoff run this year, right? Right? Probably so, but they might just make it interesting if Sunday’s showing against Orlando City SC is any indication of how the remainder of the 2016 season will play out. 3-1 was the final score following a Clint Dempsey hat trick (check out all three goals below). Jordan Morris notched two assists on the evening, as did new signing Nicolas Lodeiro, who is already quite clearly the best player just about every time he steps out on an MLS field. The Sounders have won two fo their last nine games. With 12 games to go, they are ninth in the Western Conference, eight points back of the Portland Timbers, who presently occupy the sixth and final playoff spot, with two games in hand. Orlando City, meanwhile, are level on points with the Eastern Conference’s sixth-place New England Revolution, on the outside looking in due to tiebreakers.

Three moments that mattered
14′ — Dempsey gets wide open in the box to make it 1-1 — Dempsey enjoyed his very own Florida zip code, which is located inside the penalty area, as he pulled the Sounders level after Seb Hines put the hosts ahead after seven minutes.
37′ — Roldan, Morris set Dempsey up for another — Cristian Roldan’s ball over the top was spectacular, but Morris corralling possession and deciding to lay it off so coolly was just as unlikely. Two easy ones for Dempsey.
48′ — Morris to Dempsey once more for the hat trick — The offside trap is just not working today, Orlando City.
Man of the match: Clint Dempsey
Goalscorers: Hines (7′), Dempsey (14′, 37′, 48′)
