Arsenal’s defensive situation isn’t pretty at the moment, and Arsene Wenger is looking to rectify the situation as the Premier League season draws closer to its start.
The Gunners are desperate to sign Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi ahead of Sunday’s PL opener against Liverpool, with the English side has been linked to the 24-year-old German for much of the summer.
Wenger and co. are reportedly willing to spend up to roughly $38 million for the young centerback, as Arsenal continues to battle several injuries on the defensive side of play. Both Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista will miss at least six months, with the former out for several months.
Christian Benteke is on the minds of Crystal Palace, again.
After having their $32 million bid rejected back in July, Palace is at it again as Alan Pardew‘s squad looks to bolster its attack. Palace is looking to add another big piece this summer after bringing Andros Townsend into the fold.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that Benteke is free to leave the club if the right deal comes to fruition.

Palace is reportedly prepared to match Benteke’s weekly wages of over $150,000, with the club growing desperate to add a striker after missing out on Michy Batshuayi, who went to Chelsea earlier in the summer.
Southampton looks like they could be bolstering their midfield with the season around the corner, or at least they plan to anyway.
The Saints are reportedly in for Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro, although the Premier League side is also facing heat from Serie A side Lazio for the player’s services.
Sturaro, 23, featured in nearly half of Juventus’ matches last season, while also being called up by Italy for this summer’s EURO 2016.
The 29-year-old is said to be keen on a move to Turkey, so long as his family can get acclimated to life in the new country the same way they did in England.
Talks were stalled between Liverpool and Galatasaray yesterday after Jurgen Klopp reportedly raised concern over finding a defensive replacement for Leiva in the event that he does leave.Follow @MattReedFutbol
