Bayern took an advantage just before the hour mark, when Arturo Vidal slotted home his follow up effort after goalkeeper Roman Burki turned aside the midfielder’s initial shot.

In the 50th minute, Felix Passlack caught hold of a powerful effort from outside the box but the Dortmund midfielder’s effort was punched aside by Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer.

Bayern had the best chance to take the lead six minutes before halftime when Vidal’s header was acrobatically kept out of net by Burki.

After the initial attempt by the Chilean midfielder, Vidal’s follow-up attempt was blasted over the crossbar.

The two clubs will begin the new Bundesliga campaign when Bayern takes on Werder Bremen and Dortmund faces Mainz 05.
