The Blues come into the new season with high expectations after adding N'Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi this summer, while the Hammers recently made noise of their own when acquiring Andre Ayew.

West Ham will be a bit short-handed on Monday, though, as Slaven Bilic will have to limit Dimitri Payet‘s minutes following a long summer of competition with France at EURO 2016.

The Blues are looking to get off to a much stronger start than a season ago, when Chelsea started out with three wins in its first 12 PL matches.

What they’re saying

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte: “When you watch Leicester’s games you understand this great feeling between the players. Every player is ready to help his team-mate because he knows in another situation his team-mate will help him. It’s important to have this if you want to win. It’s important to have talented, fantastic players, but it’s important as well to create the right spirit.”

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic: “We have a good squad – we’ve kept most of the players and we’ve added some players too. We are expecting them to improve us – we’d expect that even without them because we have been together for a year now and had a good last season.

Prediction

It’s not the easiest task for the Blues to open up the new PL season but Chelsea look poised for a strong campaign so long as Conte can sort out the backline situation. The Hammers boast several dangerous attacking options, though, which the Blues will have to be wary of. Chelsea 3-1 West Ham
