Manchester City has been placed in the Champions League playoff round thanks to their fourth-place finish in last year’s Premier League table, and things have been…up and down in Romania.

The Sky Blues are 2-0 up on Steaua Bucharest thanks to a pair of first-half goals, so they’re still in control, but the visitors should have already put this two-legged tie to rest with a trio of away goals.

Sergio Aguero has missed a pair of penalties so far in the opening 20 minutes, with the first saved by Florin Nita in the eighth minute, and the second blasted well over the bar straight down the freeway on the 20 minute mark.

It’s still likely that Manchester City moves on past last year’s¬†Romanian 2nd place finishers, but this won’t give the Argentinian too much confidence heading back into Premier League play. He did bag an early penalty in the season opener against Sunderland, so things aren’t all miserable for Aguero from the spot.

Despite Aguero’s early struggles, he did pick up a goal from open play in the 41st minute. Raheem Sterling has also looked dangerous for the Premier League side, assisting Aguero’s goal. David Silva had the opener on 13 minutes.

Manchester City returns to Premier League play on Saturday, away at Stoke City at 7:30am E.T. live on NBCSN or live online at NBCSports.com.
