Pep Guardiola‘s boys beat Sunderland 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday but with question marks over the futures of Joe Hart and Yaya Toure at the club, captain Vincent Kompany injured and Pep’s new philosophy taking time to bed in, this trip to the Romanian capital signifies a potential banana skin for City.
A win over two legs against Steaua will see City in the UCL group stage and after losing to eventual winners Real Madrid 1-0 on aggregate in the semifinals last season, they have high hopes of at least reaching that stage once again under new manager Guardiola.
Elsewhere on Tuesday Ajax host Rostov, Borussia Monchengladbach head to Young Boys of Switzerland, Dinamo Zagreb welcome Red Bull Salzburg and APOEL Nicosia travel to FC Copenhagen.
The first leg’s take place on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, with the second leg’s next week.
