Jurgen Klopp is pretty fed up with the constant speculation around transfers in and out of Liverpool.

The German coach saw his side lose 2-0 at Burnley on Saturday in the biggest shock of the embryonic 2016-17 Premier League season and Following that defeat at Turf Moor the German coach stated that he would not “be a real idiot” and splash the cash on panic buys between now and Aug. 31 just because Liverpool have now conceded five times in their opening two games of the season.
Speaking to reporters on Monday at Melwood ahead of Liverpool’s game against Burton Albion on Tuesday in the second round of the League Cup, Klopp went on a bit of a rant about the media’s obsession with the transfer window and finally revealed what Liverpool is planning to do in the next nine days.
“I really wait for the day when finally the transfer window is closed because I can’t believe how obsessed you all are with this and that you don’t believe for a second in improving things on the training pitch,” Klopp said. “I understand after Arsenal, it was far away from being a perfect game and everybody said we scored four, so obviously we can score goals, but we conceded three, so obviously we have a defensive problem. That’s if you’re not very interested in us, then that’s a way you can see the game.
“Then we play at Burnley and have 81 per cent of ball possession but didn’t score a goal, so now we could say we need another striker, if you want. I think it makes sense that we think about these things without watching the results we’ve had. That’s what I’ve said always, until August 31 everything is possible because a lot of things can happen, but in this moment it’s not that we have a main thing to do, that our feeling is in this position we have nobody or we have the feeling we cannot work with the player in the position or something like this.
“We are very professional, very clear and always working, but there is nothing more to say about this. What will happen, we will see. I don’t know in this moment 100 per cent what will happen, but it’s not that we have a preferred position where we are looking for players.”
It has been a busy summer already for Klopp and Liverpool as only Manchester United and Manchester City have spent more than the $81 million they’ve shelled out on new players.
Klopp has also sold 11 players with Joe Allen, Jordon Ibe, Martin Skrtel and Christian Benteke departing and bringing in a tidy sum of $95 million to make a tidy profit. Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum were the main buys, while Loris Karius, Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip also arrived to strengthen their defense.
The main need for Liverpool is surely a left back as Alberto Moreno continues to come under scrutiny and James Milner, normally a midfielder, has been preferred to the Spaniard at left back after Moreno gave away a penalty kick and generally had a shocker in Liverpool’s 4-3 win at Arsenal on the opening day.
Klopp is pretty set everywhere else, although he could maybe do with adding another center back as Klavan and Dejan Lovren have looked shaky, but then Mamadou Sakho should be back soon and Matip will provide competition too.
When the transfer window slams shut at 7 p.m. ET on Aug. 31 there’s no doubting that this will now be Klopp’s team.
