Barcelona confirms Messi’s availability in doubt after hamstring injury

The left hamstring injury that will cost Lionel Messi playing in Argentina’s next World Cup qualifier will also affect his club status.

Barcelona admitted that Messi’s availability is in question for Saturday’s La Liga contest against recently-promoted club Alaves, a team that has already drawn Atletico Madrid.

Marca reports that Messi will miss Saturday’s match, but should be fit for next week’s UEFA Champions League group stage opener against Celtic.

Tests conducted today on Leo Messi have confirmed that they player is still having trouble with the adductor muscle in his left hamstring. He has been recommended to lighten his training load over the next few days and his availability will depend on how the issue progresses.

The Blaugranas have insurance in the form of Paco Alcacer, the 23-year-old Valencia man who Barca unveiled early Monday.
