Aron Johannsson is finally off the mark.

After injuries destroyed much of his 2014 and 2015, the U.S. international has scored his first goal since September 22, 2015 by cooly slotting home a penalty to give Werder Bremen a 1-0 lead over Augsburg just ticks before halftime.

Augsburg defender Martin Hinteregger blocked off Zlatko Junuzovic in the box, Johannsson stepped up and sent goalkeeper Marwin Hitz the wrong way in first-half stoppage time.

Johannsson has not appeared for the USMNT since August of 2015, with a myriad of injuries forcing him out of club action soon after, only just returning this new season. Johannsson would add even more cutting edge to the USMNT squad as they look towards the CONCACAF Hexagonal, but with Bobby Wood in stunning form and Jozy Altidore a fixture among the teamsheet, Johannsson might struggle to force his way back into the lineup immediately
