Sunderland have a very good record against Everton in recent meetings as the Black Cats have won four of their last seven meetings. The home side are also desperate to not start a sixth-straight season without a win in their opening four games as the perennial slow starters have once again been sluggish out of the blocks after Sam Allardyce left to take charge of England in the summer and Moyes had little time to prepare.
In team news Sunderland bring back Jan Kirchhoff after his return from injury, while Adnan Januzaj and Duncan Watmore start out wide with Jermain Defoe on his own up top. U.S. youngster Lynden Gooch again starts in central midfield.
Everton got to a flat back four with Seamus Coleman back in at right back, while Romelu Lukaku starts up top on his own with Yannick Bolasie and Kevin Mirallas out wide and Ross Barkley in an advanced midfield role.
