Ex-U.S. U-20 captain leaves Liga MX for Sporting KC

Former U.S. U-20 captain Benji Joya is headed (back) to Major League Soccer.

Joya, 22, joins Sporting KC after spending most of the last half-decade in Liga MX.

Property of Santos Laguna since 2011, Joya played four times for Los Guerreros in addition to loan spells at Club Necaxa and Chicago Fire.

While with Chicago in 2014, Joya made 12 appearances and scored once.

The 5-foot-8 midfielder is California-born, and maybe 19 appearances with 4 goals for the U.S. U-20 side and played four games with a single goal for the U-23 side.
