Jurgen Klopp‘s side rode first half goals from Dejan Lovren and Jordan Henderson for the win, as Diego Costa‘s second half goal couldn’t inspire a comeback for Antonio Conte‘s side.

Below we hand each player who took part marks out of 10. Let us know if you agree in the comments section below.

Chelsea

Thibaut Courtois – 6 – Made a superb save from Origi late in the second half but spilled an early shot.

Branislav Ivanovic – 5- Gave the ball away in possession and was caught out for pace on more than one occasion.

Gary Cahill – 4 – A night to forget. Awful defending for Liverpool’s first goal and struggled to cope with pace and movement of Mane and Coutinho in front of him.

David Luiz – 7 – Was Chelsea’s best defender. Good on the ball, took a blow to his face early on.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 5 – Didn’t offer much in attack but was solid enough in defense.

N'Golo Kante – 5 – Not a vintage display from the French international. Won the ball back as always but didn’t get forward

Nemanja Matic – 6 – Too slow on the ball at times but did set up Costa’s goal with a delicate chip.

Willian – 4 – Didn’t get a chance to run at James Milner and hooked off late on.

Oscar – 4 – Hard to remember him being on the pitch in the first half as Brazilian struggled with physicality of Henderson and Wijnaldum.

Eden Hazard – 5 – Cut inside menacingly a few times but it was far too often.

Diego Costa – 7 – Scored another goal and was a constant threat in the box but he just didn’t see enough of the ball and service to him was poor.

Subs: Cesc Fabregas, Pedro, Victor Moses – N/A – All came on in 82nd minute and didn’t have much time to contribute.

Liverpool

Simon Mignolet – 6 – Decent evening for the Belgian who didn’t have to make many saves.

Nathaniel Clyne – 6 – Solid enough from the England international

Dejan Lovren – 7 – Calm finish to put Liverpool ahead and shackled Costa well.

Joel Matip – 7 – Looks better with each game in England although slightly slid in for Costa’s goal. Other than that, very composed.

James Milner – 6 – Solid outing from a typical 6 out of 10 guy in the unfamiliar role of left back.

Jordan Henderson – 7 – What. A. Goal. Apart from bending a beauty in from 30-plus yards for the game-winner, Henderson did all the dirty work in midfield. Captain’s display.

(Star man) Georginio Wijnaldum – 8 – Dutchman was sublime. Alongside Henderson broke down all of Chelsea impetus and was exhausted at the end. Great display in a new role for him.

Adam Lallana – 6 – Kept going forward whenever he got the chance and whenever he picked up the ball it seemed like Chelsea were wary.

Philippe Coutinho – 6 – Whipped in a lovely cross for Lovren’s goal and like Lallana, always seemed dangerous when he got on the ball in the right areas.

Sadio Mane – 6 – Didn’t get a chance to get in-behind Chelsea’s defense and caught offside a few times.

Daniel Sturridge – 5 – Seemed to have a disagreement with Klopp in the second half and went straight down the tunnel when he was subbed moments later. Disappointing display.

Subs: Divock Origi (On for Daniel Sturridge, 57′) – 6 – Dangerous on the break and came close with a header. Kevin Stewart, Lucas Leiva – N/A – Both came on late, made little impact.
