It’s almost impossible to overstate how potent Frank Lampard has been when healthy for New York City FC.
That statement would’ve seemed foolhardy just a few months ago, with the Chelsea legend fighting a calf injury and unable to get meaningful minutes.
Well, another calf injury has come to the big man, and will put a crimp in NYCFC’s hopes to clinch a first-round playoff bye over local rivals New York Red Bulls.
Lampard is set to miss 3-4 weeks. From NYCFC.com:
Lampard’s injury, a different injury than the one that sidelined him earlier in the season, occurred in the first half of Saturday’s match against FC Dallas. Frank Lampard has scored 12 goals and registered one assist in 15 starts this season. Earlier this season, the New York City FC midfielder scored his 300th goal for club and country.
Lampard has been very, very good, but this will open more playing time for players like Jack Harrison and Steven Mendoza. And if the timetable is right, then Lampard will come back just in time for the playoffs.
