Enner Valencia was carted off the field with an oxygen mask over his face during Thursday’s CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier between Ecuador and Chile.

Ecuador held a 3-0 lead in the match, when Valencia crumpled to the turf clutching his hamstring. He was then led off the field with sprinting medical officers next to the cart.

The Everton striker was not having a good day off the field, reportedly confronted by Ecuadorian police earlier today for failing to make child support payments.

From the Liverpool Echo:

Lawyers representing the mother of Valencia’s five-year-old child arrived with a judicial order, accompanied by police, and attempted to have Valencia detained at the Atahualpa Stadium in Quito.

They were seeking maintenance for the player’s daughter. Valencia allegedly owes 17,000 dollars.

Some skeptical viewers suggested that Valencia is trying to evade authorities, but the injury looked very scary.

UPDATE: Multiple sources say police tried to stop Valencia’s cart from leaving the stadium, so perhaps the above has legs!
