Both Gazetta dello Sport and Tuttosport have reported on Saturday that Inter Milan have made significant progress toward signing the 26-year-old Italian international after failing to strike a deal during the recently completed summer transfer window. Darmian felt compelled to stay and fight for his place under new manager Jose Mourinho, but has featured just once this season, in Man United’s Europa League defeat to Feyenoord last month.
Earlier this week, Darmian’s agent went public with his client’s desire to leave the club in January, a season and a half after signing for then-manager Louis Van Gaal last summer, assuming he isn’t give first-team action between now and then.
According to the reports, Inter will pay a fee to United to take Darmian on loan in January, and will then pay an additional fee in the summer of 2017 to make his transfer permanent.
