On Monday Barcelona confirmed that one third of the prolific MSN will sign an three-year contract extension with the reigning Spanish champions.
After intense speculation linking Neymar with a move to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, an announcement was made in June about him signing a new contract until 2021.
In a brief statement on their website Barca confirmed the Brazilian superstar will officially extend his stay at the Nou Camp:
Neymar will make his contract extension official on Friday 21, October at 3.00pm CET at the Club offices. As the Club has already announced, the striker’s contract extension with FC Barcelona will tie him to the blaugranes until 30 June 2021.
Neymar, 24, arrived at Barca in 2013 from Santos. In the last three seasons he’s scored 90 goals in 149 goals and along with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez he led Barca to a famous La Liga, UEFA Champions League and Copa del Rey treble in 2014-15.
With PSG, Manchester United and others constantly linked with a move for the captain of Brazil’s national team, this will put an end to all speculation once and for all.
Over the past two seasons the trio of Messi, Suarez and Neymar have scored 253 goals between them. However, the partnership won’t last forever.
Messi and Suarez are both 29.
This extension from Barca shows that they’re putting their future success in the hands of one man: Neymar Jr.
It’s a safe investment he’ll become the leading man at Barcelona for at least the next five years.
