Bradley Wright-Phillips can capture his second MLS Golden Boot in three seasons if he manages to maintain or grow his one-goal lead on David Villa this weekend.
BWP has 23 goals as the New York Red Bulls head to Philadelphia, while Villa’s 22 goals and New York City FC are hosting the Columbus Crew.
Whether BWP takes the honors again or not, it’s interesting that his goal total in New York came quite close to never moving past one.

Big Apple Soccer’s Kristian Dyer reported Sunday that RBNY management was ready to cut BWP before the start of the 2014 MLS campaign, after the Englishman scored just one goal during the 2013 season.
But Gerard Houllier, head of Global Football for Red Bull, intervened and asked management to give the man a chance. BWP, of course, won the Golden Boot with an MLS record 27 goals.
Yeah, sometimes it takes time to adjust to a new league. See Dyer’s full recap below, or head here.
