We are halfway through the group stage, and two Premier League sides are feeling quite different about their Wednesday results.

Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 Basel

Angel Di Maria got the scoring started, Lucas Moura made things a bit more comfortable, and Edinson Cavani’s stoppage time penalty helped bury Basel. Barring improbability, both PSG and Arsenal will go to the knockout rounds.

Arsenal 6-0 Ludogorets Razgrad

Mesut Ozil’s class was too much for the Bulgarian visitors, as the German netted thrice in the second half to put an exclamation point (or three) on a big, big win. Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also helped the Gunners all-but-secure a place in the knockout rounds.

Barcelona 4-0 Manchester City

On paper, this result looks like a gulf in class between the two sides but Manchester City was game aside from some brutal mistakes. Lionel Messi scored his 7th Champions League hat trick, and Neymar made amends for having his penalty saved by Wily Caballero by scoring a terrific late goal. Claudio Bravo was sent off for Man City, though the man-advantage only lasted 20 minutes thanks to a terrible tackle from Jeremy Mathieu.

Celtic 0-2 Borussia Monchengladbach

Lars Stindl and Andre Hahn broke the Bundesliga guests through the doors after an even first half saw Celtic hoping for a rare point. Instead, Gladbach is one point behind Manchester City after three critical points.
