Darlington Nagbe’s hype was well-documented when he burst onto the U.S. Men’s National Team scene in 2015.

Just one year later, though, the Portland Timbers midfielder could have already seen his days with the USMNT behind him following his decision to turn down a call up to the U.S.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl, Nagbe may not be called back into the USMNT after turning down Jurgen Klinsmann’s call up ahead of matches against Cuba and New Zealand.

It’s been suggested that the 26-year-old declined a spot in order to spend time with his family and in large part due to the fact that Nagbe had a conversation with Klinsmann and the U.S. staff.

Since gaining his citizenship in September 2015, Nagbe has earned 10 caps with the national team, which includes scoring against Ecuador in a friendly.
