All apologies: Sissoko’s mean-looking elbow played down by Arter

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko connected with a rather nasty-looking elbow to the head of Bournemouth’s Harry Arter in Saturday’s scoreless draw at the Vitality Stadium.

Arter reacted furiously on the pitch, and no discipline was given to Sissoko (though we suspect that will change).

Sissoko was sent off twice at Newcastle, one for a stamp on Andy Carroll and again for a dirty tackle on Lucas Leiva. He also infamously got away with a 2015 ankle stamp on Joe Allen.

But Arter, who it must be said has often seems a class act, said Sissoko’s apologized and played down Saturday’s incident.

“He said afterwards he caught me by accident,” Arter said on TV. “He is not that sort of player.”

Still, expect a charge for the Spurs’ midfielder. However you judge the incident, we’ve seen fines and suspensions for much less.

Rebecca Lowe, Kyle Martino and Robbie Mustoe discuss Moussa Sissoko elbowing Harry Arter in the face. Both Martino and Mustoe feel Sissoko should have been given a red card and could face a suspension as well.
