It’s no surprise that the first questions for Pep Guardiola on Friday were on the subject of Yaya Toure.
The detached midfielder, 33, has been a massive part of Manchester City in the past few years but has appeared just once since Guardiola took over.

Part of that absence has to do with a poor relationship between the two stemming back to Barcelona, but more has to do with Toure’s agent Dimitri Seluk. The agent has bashed Guardiola several times, and the manager said he needs an apology from Seluk before Toure can return to the playing field.
Seluk remains combative, though he admitted calling Guardiola at Toure’s behest before issuing more tempestuous comments on Friday. We’ll leave those be because, frankly, he’s not worth the effort.
Toure issued a public apology on Friday and said he’s spoken with Guardiola on behalf of his agent, apologizing.
So what’s the manager’s response? From Sky Sports:
“I spoke with Yaya today, of course it’s a private conversation. It’s good news for Manchester City.
“Yaya is in all our meetings and all our training sessions. I spoke with him and it’s good, that’s all. Now we focus on Middlesbrough.”
Is the saga over (at least as we currently know it)? Let’s hope so.
