Joey Barton just can’t catch a break get out of his own way, can he?

In the last five years, Barton has played for four clubs in three counties, and could be on the verge of seeking a fifth with his current employers, Scottish giant upstart Rangers, in advanced talks to terminate his contract barely six months after joining on a two-year deal.

The latest disgrace on Barton’s resume? A training-ground dust-up with Mark Warburton, who happens to be his manager, and a teammate back in September. Barton was suspended by the club before returning to training with the club’s under-20 side last week.

With Barton, who will almost certainly never feature for the first team again, set to earn nearly $25,000 per week for the next year and a half, Rangers are presumably keen to send him on his way sooner rather than later. Barton is also set to appear before the Scottish Football Association later this month to answer charges that claim he bet on games.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche hinted last month that the door could be left open for a potential return to Barton’s last club prior to his brief stay in Scotland.
